Mets use long ball to complete three-game sweep of Rockies (highlights)

The New York Mets (37-22) wrapped up a dominant weekend at Citi Field by finishing off a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies (9-50) with a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

Francisco Lindor continued his hot streak, launching a go-ahead solo homer in the fifth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. It was his third home run of the series, and he tallied six hits and three RBI across the weekend. The Mets have now won 26 straight games when Lindor goes deep.

Pete Alonso provided the early spark with a three-run shot in the fourth, his 12th of the season, breaking open what had been a pitcher’s duel. Juan Soto added the finishing touch with an opposite-field solo homer in the eighth, giving him two home runs in as many days and 10 on the year.

On the mound, Clay Holmes turned in a career-best outing, working seven strong innings. Despite giving up two home runs, Holmes allowed just three runs on three hits, striking out three without issuing a walk. He’s now held opponents to three runs or fewer in 10 of his 12 starts this season.

Edwin Díaz closed the door in the ninth with three strikeouts, earning the save.

Brandon Nimmo sat out as a precaution after a calf cramp on Saturday but entered late for defense.

Box Score

The Mets head west for a four-game NLCS rematch against the Dodgers, starting Monday at 10:10 p.m. Paul Blackburn will make his season debut.
