Langworthy backs tax-free overtime: What would it mean?

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Congressman Nick Langworthy visited Elmira Heights Friday to promote a proposal that would eliminate taxes on overtime pay, a key part of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” Speaking at CAF USA, Langworthy said the measure would increase take-home pay and help ease worker shortages.

The plan targets Americans earning under $160,000 and would require them to claim the tax break when filing. Critics argue it could drain federal revenue, but Langworthy said the focus should be on boosting local economies, not Washington coffers.

The provision would run from 2025 to 2028 unless made permanent. It now awaits Senate consideration.
