Mets even series with Dodgers (highlights)

The New York Mets (31-21) evened up their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (32-20) on Saturday night at Citi Field, riding a stellar outing from David Peterson and a clutch double by Juan Soto to secure a 5-2 victory.

Peterson delivered his best start of the season, becoming just the second Mets pitcher to go at least seven innings in 2025. He silenced the heart of L.A.’s lineup, striking out Shohei Ohtani three times and holding Freddie Freeman hitless. The lefty scattered five hits and two runs across 7.2 innings while striking out seven.

Offensively, the Mets broke through in the fourth after falling behind 2-1. Luis Torrens started the rally with a single, and with two outs, back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Starling Marte’s infield dribbler brought home the tying run, and Soto followed with a rocket to right-center for a two-run double that put the Mets ahead for good.

Brett Baty continued his strong play with an RBI single in the second and an insurance double in the eighth. The Mets went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position, a welcome turnaround from recent struggles.

Edwin Díaz was called on for a four-out save and delivered flawlessly, striking out the side in the ninth to remain a perfect 11-for-11 in save chances.

Box Score

The Mets look to take the series Sunday night with Kodai Senga on the mound against Landon Knack. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
