The streets, yards, and storefronts of Newark came alive with flowers and civic pride as the village celebrated its 19th Annual Community Pride Day on earlier this week.
Volunteers fanned out across the village to plant flowers, pull weeds, and pick up litter in public spaces, while residents and business owners added their own vibrant touches to homes and storefronts. The annual event, now in its seventh year under the “Community Pride Day” banner, was hailed as a resounding success.
Among those recognized for their efforts were MariAnne and Scott Morgan, who received a $200 prize for having the most colorful natural flowers in a residential yard at their home on Scott Street. The Katie Pullen Agency also took home a $200 award for the most colorful floral display on a business exterior at its East Union Street location. Both prizes were presented by Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor.

The Community Pride Day Committee expressed its gratitude to local supporters, including HEP Sales/North Main Lumber/Builder’s Bargain Outlet, Plassche Lumber, Q’s Power Equipment, the Newark Rotary Club, Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, Newark Garden Club, and the Village of Newark.
Special thanks were also extended to the many volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to help beautify the community.
