Geneva Theatre Guild announces auditions for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

The Geneva Theatre Guild is summoning local performers to bring their talent and energy to the stage for its summer production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” set to run August 8–10 at the Bartlett Theatre.

Auditions for the cult-classic musical will take place June 2 and 3 at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at 340 S. Main Street in Geneva. No preparation is necessary. Participants are encouraged to come ready to sing, dance, and act selections from the show.

Closing out its 47th season, the Guild is staging an offbeat rock musical that blends sci-fi, horror, and comedy, complete with a score by EGOT winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman. “Little Shop of Horrors,” based on the 1960 film by Roger Corman and Charles Griffith, follows the story of Seymour Krelborn, a timid flower shop employee who discovers a strange plant with an appetite for blood.

The plot thickens as Seymour names the plant “Audrey II” after his love interest, Audrey. As the plant grows, so do its sinister demands, pulling Seymour into a whirlwind of fame, fortune, and moral compromise. The tale ends with a cautionary punchline: “DON’T FEED THE PLANTS!”

“Little Shop of Horrors (Broadway Version)” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, which supplies all authorized performance materials.

This production is funded by the Auburn Public Theater Regrants program—supported by the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature—and a grant from the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation, Part A.
