The Town of Canandaigua is rolling out a fresh slate of digital tools to make civic engagement easier and more accessible for residents.
According to Town Supervisor Jared Simpson, the town now offers several options for receiving timely updates, including a monthly e-newsletter, town email blasts, and the newly developed TOC app. “I frequently hear from residents thanking me for how open and transparent our town is,” Simpson stated. “We use a variety of contact methods, both active and passive, to make sure that information gets to those who want it.”
The monthly newsletter features announcements, upcoming events, and community highlights. Residents can sign up for the newsletter and email updates by visiting the town’s official website and completing a quick subscription process.
For more real-time access, the town’s TOC app offers push notifications and on-demand information. It also allows users to access services, report issues, and communicate with town officials. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
Meanwhile, the revamped town website provides improved navigation to help users find agendas, department contacts, and service links. Simpson also pointed residents to the town’s Facebook page, which regularly shares event photos and updates.
The May newsletter also reminds residents of seasonal changes and deadlines. Turkey hunting season began May 1, and licenses and tags are available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Town Clerk Crystelyn Laske encouraged hunters to prepare in advance: “Don’t wait until the last minute.” She advised reviewing state regulations before heading out.
From the Assessor’s Office, Michelle Rowlinson issued a reminder about property assessments. Preliminary assessments appear on the May 1 Tentative Assessment Roll. “If you agree with this assessment, no action is necessary,” Rowlinson wrote. Property owners who believe their assessment is inaccurate may schedule an informal review, with appointments available through the week of May 12. Grievance Day will be held May 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The newsletter also highlights upcoming board and committee meetings in May and June, and includes updates from the Environmental Conservation Board, local historians, and various town departments. Residents are encouraged to subscribe or download the TOC app to ensure they don’t miss key dates or community initiatives.
