With spring mowing season underway, Hornell officials are reminding residents that tossing grass or leaves onto city streets is not just careless — it’s illegal. The city says the debris can clog storm drains and pose serious hazards for bikers.
In a Facebook post, the city cited municipal code 267-1, which bans depositing materials like grass, leaves, or trash on public streets and sidewalks without permission. Officials say even small actions, like sweeping up clippings, help keep the city running smoothly and safely.
They’re urging residents to mow responsibly by directing clippings away from roads, using a bagging attachment, or cleaning up afterward. Public cooperation now can prevent bigger problems later in the season.
