Tesla has issued a major safety recall affecting nearly 46,000 Cybertrucks in the United States. The recall addresses a manufacturing defect that can cause an exterior panel to detach from the vehicle while in motion.
Why the Cybertruck is being recalled
The defect involves a trim panel located between the windshield and the hood. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the panel may not be properly secured. This flaw increases the risk of the part separating from the vehicle at high speeds, potentially creating a road hazard for other drivers.
Tesla acknowledged the issue after receiving multiple reports from Cybertruck owners. The company has not confirmed any crashes or injuries related to the defect.
What models are affected?
This recall impacts 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck models built before April 2025. Tesla manufactured and delivered nearly 46,000 of these vehicles during that timeframe.
Drivers can confirm if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
A growing pattern of safety issues
This is the eighth recall for the Cybertruck in less than 18 months. Previous recalls addressed issues ranging from sticky accelerator pedals to malfunctioning windshield wipers.
Industry analysts say the frequency of recalls raises concerns about the vehicle’s build quality and Tesla’s accelerated production timeline. Despite the recalls, demand for the Cybertruck remains high due to its design and branding.
What Tesla owners should do
Tesla will inspect and repair affected vehicles free of charge. The company has already begun contacting owners through its mobile app and email. Owners should schedule service appointments as soon as possible.
Until repairs are completed, Tesla advises drivers to inspect their Cybertrucks for signs of panel separation and to report any unusual vibrations or noise near the hood area.
