Ohio families to get 0 monthly checks from two new income programs

Two guaranteed income programs in Ohio are now sending $500 monthly payments to eligible residents. The initiatives, launched in Columbus and Franklin County, aim to boost financial security for hundreds of families.

Both programs offer no-strings-attached cash support, allowing participants to use the funds however they choose.

Ohio Mothers Trust program details

The Ohio Mothers Trust launched in December 2024 and supports 32 single mothers. Participants receive $500 per month for 12 months, with payments starting in January 2025.

Eligibility requirements included:

  • Membership in Motherful, a local organization supporting single mothers.
  • Income below 80% of the area’s median income.
  • Completion of an application process.

The program is funded by RISE Together Innovation Institute, UpTogether, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, and Motherful.

Donations to support Motherful’s work can be made at motherful.org.

Economic Mobility Accelerator Program details

The Economic Mobility Accelerator Program launched in October 2024. The first 200 participants began receiving $500 monthly payments in March 2025, and payments will continue for 24 months.

To qualify, residents needed to:

  • Earn more than the federal poverty level but less than the median income in central Ohio.
  • Graduate from one of six workforce or wealth-building programs.

The program focuses on improving job skills, career development, and long-term financial independence.

Guaranteed income programs gaining ground

Both Ohio initiatives reflect a national trend of local governments and nonprofits using guaranteed income models to support economic mobility. These pilot programs aim to help families build lasting financial security without traditional restrictions on spending.
