The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a major service upgrade: secure digital access to Social Security numbers (SSNs) through the my Social Security portal. The new feature will launch early this summer.

Digital access improves service for users

Account holders will be able to view their SSN securely online. This provides a mobile-friendly alternative to carrying a physical Social Security card. Users who forget their SSN or lose their card can access the information quickly through a secure login. They will no longer need to visit a Social Security office or wait for a replacement card by mail.

This service is intended for non-Social Security administrative purposes. It can help verify identity for banking, employment, or government forms.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure.”

Focus on security and convenience

The SSA designed the digital SSN feature to strengthen security and improve access. Reducing the need for mailed cards helps lower the risk of lost or stolen personal information.

The my Social Security portal remains one of the safest ways to manage Social Security accounts. The SSA encourages users to create an account now to benefit from this and future features.
