Volunteers invited to Fillmore Glen for I Love My Park Day

Local volunteers will gather at Fillmore Glen State Park on Saturday, May 3, to give the grounds a much-needed boost ahead of summer. The Friends of Fillmore Glen will host the annual “I Love My Park Day” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., inviting people of all ages to pitch in on projects throughout the park.

The morning will include trail clearing, invasive species removal, garden work, litter pickup, and refreshing the playground with wood chips. Organizers say the event is a great chance to “reconnect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.” A free pizza lunch will be served to all volunteers at 1 p.m.

Registration opens at 8:45 a.m. at the Main Pavilion, followed by a group photo at 9 a.m. Volunteers can sign up in advance by visiting ptny.org/ilovemypark and selecting Fillmore Glen State Park under the Finger Lakes Region. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Light refreshments will be available in the Fillmore Room during the morning. Organizers encourage participants to wear sturdy shoes and gloves, bring tools if available, and apply tick spray. The park will provide additional tools as needed. Water bottles are recommended; the park offers a bottle filling station and restrooms.

“In past years we have had many wonderful volunteers on Fillmore Glen’s I Love My Park Day,” the organizers said. “It is a productive event that gives the park a good jumpstart on the camping season and the opening of the beautiful and popular gorge trail.”
