Hobart lacrosse pulled off a dramatic 16-15 comeback win over UMass on Friday, marking the program’s first-ever victory at Garber Field and keeping their Atlantic 10 Tournament hopes alive.
Trailing by one at halftime, the Statesmen surged out of the break with six unanswered goals to flip the momentum. Will Delano led the charge with six points, including the 100th and 101st of his career. John Jude Considine, David Peterkin, and Cade Dino each recorded hat tricks in a balanced offensive effort.
Hobart leaned on sophomore Mike Valent at the faceoff X, where he won 15-of-24 draws and scooped a game-high 10 ground balls. Goalie Jackson Faiola also stepped up, matching his career-best with 16 saves to preserve the win.
UMass was led by Trace Hogan’s seven-point night and a hat trick from Caelin Lewis, but the Minutemen’s late rally fell short. Hobart’s Peterkin scored the eventual game-winner with just under five minutes remaining, and the defense held strong down the stretch.
Despite being outshot 46-36, Hobart capitalized on nearly 45% of its attempts against one of the nation’s top goalies.
The win pushes Hobart to 5-9 (2-3 A10) and into a three-way tie for third in the conference standings.
