Families and nature lovers are invited to explore the wild beauty of Fillmore Glen State Park during a free educational event on Saturday, April 26.
The “Bloom into Spring” workshop and bioblitz will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon, offering hands-on activities, a guided nature hike, and lessons on native plants. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Fillmore Glen State Park and the Moravia Area Garden Club.
Participants will learn to identify spring wildflowers, explore biodiversity using the iNaturalist app, and take part in family-friendly crafts and games. The workshop is open to adults and children of all ages and abilities, with programming designed to ensure accessibility.
The event will be led by Carlin Shew, a naturalist and environmental educator with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Shew, a Buffalo native and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry graduate, works across the Finger Lakes region to promote conservation and outdoor education.
The morning concludes with two hiking options: a short, level trail for easy access, or a longer route with moderate to challenging terrain. Light refreshments will be served, and both parking and park entry are free.
