Ontario County is rolling out a new initiative aimed at revitalizing vacant and underused rental properties, with a series of public seminars scheduled to introduce the Vacant Rental Program (VRP).
The VRP, funded by the New York State Homes & Community Renewal agency, offers grants to eligible property owners to rehabilitate empty residential units or convert non-residential buildings into long-term affordable housing. The program is managed by the Ontario County Economic Development Corporation (OCEDC) in partnership with G&G Municipal Consulting & Grant Writing.
Four free seminars are planned across the county, all running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.:
- April 23 in Canandaigua at the Hurley Building, 205 Saltonstall Street
- April 24 in Geneva at 1 Franklin Square, Suite 211
- April 29 in Phelps at 8 Banta Street
- April 30 in Richmond (Honeoye) at the Richmond Town Hall, 8690 Main Street
The sessions are open to landlords, developers, nonprofits, and other property owners who have vacant or underutilized buildings. Attendees will receive details on funding opportunities, application procedures, eligibility criteria, and compliance requirements.
No pre-registration is needed. For additional information, contact Jay Grasso at [email protected] or (585) 368-8866.
