A normal spring day at Florida State University turned terrifying when a student opened fire near the student union, killing two and injuring five. The shooter, the son of a sheriff’s deputy, sparked panic as emergency alerts rang out and students scrambled for cover, some barricading classrooms while others fled barefoot.
Eyewitnesses described bullets flying and bodies collapsing, while terrified students took shelter in a nearby church. As law enforcement swarmed the area, scenes of backpacks and shoes strewn across lawns captured the chaos. Many students were left shaken and traumatized by the violence.
This is the second mass shooting at FSU in a decade. As students gathered later to mourn, the attack reignited national grief over America’s relentless cycle of gun violence.
