At least 70 international students at New York universities have had their visas revoked by the Trump administration, according to school officials and USA TODAY. While reasons vary, some cases appear linked to minor infractions or pro-Palestinian activism.
The U.S. Department of State has cited broad security concerns but offered little detail. Visa cancellations force students to leave the country immediately or risk deportation. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed over 300 revocations, targeting what he called “lunatics,” a term used in connection with political activism.
Schools across the state—from Columbia to SUNY campuses—have reported affected students. Advocacy groups are pushing back, calling for transparency and warning of threats to academic freedom and due process.
