Steuben County Hires Officers Fired in State Strike Fallout

Correctional officers terminated during New York’s recent state prison guard strike are now finding new roles at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. While a state ban still blocks them from returning to state jobs, local agencies can now hire them.

Sheriff James Allard confirmed that seven former officers will start as deputies on April 28, with five more joining soon. He praised the hires as trained, dedicated professionals who were unfairly sidelined for standing up for their rights.

The move helps Steuben County reach full staffing levels and may open doors for more hires in the near future.
