Millions of retirees are watching their accounts as Social Security payments continue to roll out in April. While April 17 was the official payment date for one group, some beneficiaries could see deposits hit tomorrow, April 18, due to bank processing times or early deposits.

Who Could Be Paid on April 18?

According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), the April 17 check was meant for:

  • Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month
  • Those who began receiving Social Security after May 1997
  • People not receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

If your payment was processed by SSA on April 17, some banks may not credit the funds until Friday, April 18 — especially for credit unions or smaller institutions.

Payment Timing Varies by Bank

Not every Social Security recipient is paid at the same time. Depending on your bank’s internal schedule:

  • Direct deposits may arrive same-day or with a one-day lag
  • Early deposit programs through apps or banks (like Chime or Netspend) may deliver funds early
  • Weekend bank closures could affect timing for the next wave of checks

What If You Were Supposed to Get Paid but Didn’t?

If your birthdate falls between the 11th and 20th and no payment arrives by April 18:

  1. Check your SSA account at ssa.gov
  2. Call your bank or credit union to confirm pending deposits
  3. Wait until April 19 before reporting the payment as missing
  4. Contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213 if nothing appears by April 22
