What’s New: Summer EBT for Kids in 2025

In addition to the regular monthly benefits, the federal government is rolling out a new Summer EBT program for eligible children.

Families that qualify will receive $40 per child, per month during the summer to help cover meals when school is out. The Summer EBT benefits will be delivered through each state’s existing EBT system.

To qualify, children must be:

  • Eligible for free or reduced-price school meals
  • Enrolled in participating schools or SNAP households

States will begin issuing these benefits in June and July, with some sending payments automatically and others requiring sign-up.

How to Check Your Balance and Payment Date

To confirm when your May SNAP benefits arrive, check your balance using your state’s EBT portal or call the number on the back of your EBT card.

You can also:

  • Use the Fresh EBT or Providers app for real-time updates
  • Contact your local Department of Social Services
