Yates County Fights Back Against Medicaid Cuts

Yates County legislators have unanimously passed a resolution opposing proposed federal Medicaid cuts, after residents voiced concern about the impact on local healthcare access.

Resolution 214-25 urges New York’s congressional delegation to reject funding reductions that officials say could disproportionately harm the state. Lawmakers noted that one in three New Yorkers depend on Medicaid, and warned that proposed caps and subsidy eliminations would devastate care for millions.

The county also approved forming its own Health District and Board of Health, updated its hazard mitigation plan, and authorized the option to override the state’s property tax cap if necessary.
