Field Fire Quickly Contained in Canandaigua; No Injuries Reported

A fast-moving field fire in Canandaigua was brought under control Sunday afternoon thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple fire departments across Ontario County.

The Cheshire Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of State Route 21 and Nott Road. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a field roughly 100 by 200 feet actively burning. The fire’s rapid spread and close proximity to nearby structures prompted calls for additional off-road firefighting equipment from neighboring departments.

The fire was contained within 40 minutes. Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred and no buildings were damaged. Emergency crews closed a section of State Route 21 for approximately two hours during the response.

Support came from several agencies including Bristol Fire, East Bloomfield Fire, Naples Fire, Hopewell Fire, Victor Fire, Manchester Fire, and Farmington Fire. The Ontario County Emergency Management Office also assisted on scene, and Canandaigua Fire was placed on standby for Cheshire Fire.

The Cheshire Fire Department thanked all responding agencies for their support and expressed appreciation to the public for their patience during the road closure.
