The New York Yankees (8-6) bounced back with a strong offensive performance, defeating the San Francisco Giants (10-4), 8-4, on a chilly and misty Saturday afternoon in the Bronx. New York piled up 11 hits, including a five-run fifth inning that broke the game open.
Cody Bellinger set the tone early, tripling in Aaron Judge in the first before Paul Goldschmidt added a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. Though starter Will Warren gave up a two-run homer to Wilmer Flores in the second, he quickly settled in, retiring 10 straight and finishing with six strikeouts over five innings of two-hit ball to earn his first Major League win.
Bellinger helped reclaim the lead in the fifth with an RBI single. Goldschmidt doubled in another run, Jazz Chisholm Jr. drew a walk to load the bases, and Anthony Volpe’s sac fly added to the rally. Jasson Domínguez capped the inning with a two-run single.
Ben Rice added insurance in the sixth with a solo homer, his hardest-hit ball yet at 113.2 mph. The Giants rallied in the sixth with a two-run single from Flores, but the Yankees bullpen held firm. Luke Weaver, Mark Leiter Jr., and Devin Williams combined for four innings without an earned run.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 1:35 p.m., with Carlos Rodón on the mound for New York.
