Newfield man gets 17 years for kidnapping, theft

A Newfield man has been sentenced for his role in a 2023 kidnapping in Chemung County, according to the district attorney’s office.

Joseph M. Howell, 39, received 17 years in prison and five years of supervision for burglary, robbery, and kidnapping charges.

The crimes stem from a February 2023 incident in the Town of Van Etten, where Howell and two others were charged.

His sentences will run concurrently with a separate 25-years-to-life murder sentence he received in Tioga County for a May 2023 crime.
