With winter heating protections now lifted, New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) are reminding customers that service disconnections for unpaid bills will resume.
The companies are urging customers facing financial hardship to reach out immediately to explore available assistance programs. “We want customers to be able to pay their bills. We want them to know financial help is readily available,” said Christine Alexander, vice president of Customer Service.
The end of seasonal restrictions means that customers behind on payments may face shutoffs if they do not act. NYSEG and RG&E stressed that multiple notifications are sent before any disconnection occurs, including bills, reminder calls, termination notices, and in-person visits.
Both companies offer support through the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), which provides monthly bill credits for qualifying customers, along with deferred payment agreements and customizable plans.
Customers can find help by visiting NYSEG Help With Bill or calling 888-315-1755. RG&E customers can visit RG&E Help With Bill or call 877-266-3492.
