A federal judge has extended the deadline for thousands of New Yorkers relying on the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) to switch to its new manager, Public Partnerships LLC, according to Spectrum News. Consumers now have until May 15, and workers until June 6, to register without risking loss of care or pay.
The decision comes amid federal scrutiny and criticism of the rushed transition from 600 smaller payroll firms to a single vendor. State officials argue the change will improve oversight and save $500 million annually, despite ongoing technical and communication issues for users.
Though nearly 190,000 consumers have already registered, tens of thousands remain in limbo. Lawmakers say further changes may be needed to ensure uninterrupted care.
