Auburn Police arrest fugitive wanted for robbery in Pennsylvania

A man wanted for robbery in Pennsylvania was arrested early Wednesday morning after a series of encounters with Auburn Police, including an initial attempt to conceal his identity and a brief struggle during his apprehension.

According to a media release from the Auburn Police Department, officers responded to a 911 hang-up call at the Holiday Inn shortly after midnight on April 9. Dispatch advised that a man, later identified as Greg Brown, was in the hotel lobby seeking assistance.

When officers arrived and spoke with Brown, he allegedly gave a false date of birth and claimed to have no identification. After the initial encounter, Brown was allowed to leave and walked to the Speedway gas station on North Street. Upon further investigation, officers were able to confirm Brown’s real identity and discovered he had an active warrant for robbery out of Pennsylvania.

Due to the seriousness of the charge, Pennsylvania authorities confirmed they would extradite Brown. Officers located Brown at the Speedway station and informed him he was under arrest. Brown became tense and resisted. After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody and transported to Auburn Police Headquarters, where he continued to be uncooperative and refused to be fingerprinted or photographed.

Brown was charged with Fugitive from Justice and Resisting Arrest, a Class A misdemeanor. He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail and is being held pending arraignment in Cayuga County Court.
