The New York Mets (8-4) were shut out for the first time this season, falling 5–0 to the Miami Marlins (6-6) in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field, ending a six-game win streak.
Miami starter Max Meyer dominated, holding the Mets hitless until the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor broke through with a single. However, any hopes of a rally ended quickly as Juan Soto grounded into a double play. Soto finished 0-for-4, snapping his season-long on-base streak.
New York managed just two hits all afternoon, with Pete Alonso adding a leadoff single in the seventh. The Mets failed to advance a runner past first base the entire game.
Tylor Megill battled through a high pitch count early but held Miami scoreless over the first four innings. Trouble came in the fifth after a throwing error by Brett Baty set up the Marlins’ first run. Megill exited following an RBI single by Matt Mervis. Max Kranick limited the damage, tossing two clean innings in relief.
Edwin Diaz struggled in the ninth, giving up three runs including a two-run homer to Mervis. His velocity dipped, which manager Carlos Mendoza attributed to the cold, dry conditions rather than any injury.
The Mets now head west to face the Athletics, with first pitch set for Friday night in Sacramento.
