No. 6 Syracuse women’s lacrosse bounced back in dominant fashion Saturday, rolling past California 18-6 on the road. With the win, the Orange improved to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in ACC play.
Freshman Caroline Trinkaus led the offensive surge with four goals, while Gracie Britton and Alexa Vogelman each notched hat tricks. Emma Ward played a key role in facilitating the attack, tallying a season-high seven points on two goals and five assists. Her performance moved her into second place on Syracuse’s all-time assists list with 161, just three shy of the program record.
After Cal opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, Syracuse quickly took control with five straight goals and never looked back. Trinkaus fueled the early momentum with a first-half hat trick as the Orange entered halftime leading 9-5.
Syracuse dominated the second half, outscoring the Golden Bears 9-1. Britton netted two of her three goals during a six-goal third quarter, while Ward added a goal and two assists. The Orange defense locked down Cal, holding them scoreless for over 25 minutes. Goalie Danny Guyette recorded eight saves, and Sam Devito contributed across the board with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
The Orange head to Virginia Tech next, facing the Hokies on Saturday, April 12, in their final road game of the regular season.
