A juvenile has been arrested and charged with first-degree arson in connection with a fire that caused significant damage to a West Village apartment building in Ithaca last week.
Ithaca Police responded to reports of a suspicious structure fire near Abbott Lane around 5:13 p.m. on March 27. While no injuries were reported, the fire caused substantial damage to the building.
Following an investigation by the Ithaca Police Department and the New York State Police Fire unit, authorities determined the blaze was intentionally set. On April 1, police arrested a juvenile suspect, whose name has not been released due to their age.
The individual has been charged with arson in the first degree, a class A-I felony under New York State law. The suspect was arraigned in Tompkins County Court and released to the custody of a guardian.
Ithaca Police continue to seek information from the public. Witnesses or anyone with relevant details are encouraged to contact police through their tip line, dispatch, or anonymous email system.
