New York cities haven’t seen an increase in state aid for highway maintenance since 1987—but that could soon change, according to The Citizen.
State Sen. Rachel May has reintroduced a bill to raise the reimbursement rate from 85 cents to $2.47 per square yard and tie future increases to inflation. Cities like Auburn, responsible for maintaining state roads within their limits, have long called for more support amid rising costs.
Auburn’s Arterial remains riddled with potholes after a rough winter, and while the state plans a major repaving project, it’s not set to start until 2026.
