Auburn police are preparing to purchase an armored vehicle for their emergency response team—but they emphasize it’s not a tank.
According to reporting by The Citizen this week, the department plans to use over $300,000 in federal forfeiture funds, not taxpayer dollars, to acquire the vehicle. It would replace the current box truck and offer ballistic protection during high-risk operations, rescues, or major public safety events.
Officials say the vehicle could last up to 30 years and is intended solely for life-saving situations. The bidding and manufacturing process may take around six months.
