New York state prisons will resume visitations this weekend with tighter security measures following a wave of suspected substance exposure incidents involving staff and inmates.
Over the past week, emergency crews responded multiple times to Attica, Wyoming, and Cape Vincent correctional facilities after individuals reported dizziness, vomiting, and, in some cases, required Narcan. The exposures began shortly after a recent strike ended, prompting safety concerns among correction officers.
To address the threat, the Department of Corrections is enforcing body scans for all visitors. Those who decline will be limited to non-contact visits with strict time and physical interaction restrictions.
