Juan Soto homers as Mets edge Astros for first win of season

Juan Soto’s first home run in a Mets uniform and a strong start from Tylor Megill powered New York to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night at Daikin Park, marking their first win of the season.

Soto, who struck out to end Opening Day, redeemed himself with a towering 390-foot blast off Hunter Brown in the third inning, extending the Mets’ lead to 3-0. Soto is now 2-for-6 with three walks through two games.

Megill delivered a solid five-inning outing, allowing one run on three hits while striking out six. The bullpen kept Houston off the board, with Reed Garrett escaping a jam in the sixth, A.J. Minter tossing a clean seventh, Ryne Stanek handling the eighth, and Edwin Díaz locking down his first save.

New York capitalized on an Astros miscue in the second, leading to RBI hits from Mark Vientos and Jesse Winker.
