Elbridge man arrested after shotgun standoff over utility bill

  • Staff Report

An Elbridge man barricaded himself inside a home after allegedly threatening someone with a shotgun during a dispute over a utility bill.

New York State Police said they arrested 64-year-old Harvey J. Brown following a tense standoff on Whiting Road that began late Tuesday night and ended early Wednesday morning.

Troopers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 10:20 p.m. When they arrived, Brown had already threatened a victim with a shotgun, police said. He then refused to come out or respond to officers, barricading himself inside the residence.

Shortly after 3 a.m., Brown exited the home and surrendered. Police later obtained a search warrant and found two shotguns and a rifle inside the house.

Brown faces charges of second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors. He was taken to the Onondaga County Central Arraignment Part Court for arraignment.
