Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are calling for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s firing after he allegedly shared sensitive military plans in a Signal group chat that included a journalist.
Jeffries sent a letter to President Trump, condemning Hegseth’s actions as reckless and dangerous, citing potential legal violations. The leaked texts reportedly disclosed the timing and targets of a U.S. strike on Yemen’s Houthis before the mission began. Other Democrats have also called for Hegseth’s removal, along with National Security Advisor Mike Walz.
The Atlantic published the full chat, revealing that top officials, including VP JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, participated. Meanwhile, Congress is pushing for an Inspector General investigation into the incident.
