Trump’s memo targets lawyers, raising legal community concerns

President Donald Trump issued a memo directing U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek sanctions against attorneys filing frivolous lawsuits against the federal government. Critics, including immigration attorney Rosanna Berardi, say the move could discourage legitimate legal challenges and unfairly target law firms.

Legal experts argue that courts already handle unethical litigation, and the memo could have a chilling effect, especially on smaller firms. The directive proposes harsh penalties, such as revoking security clearances and terminating contracts. Bar associations are pushing back, warning that this is part of a broader effort to weaken the judiciary.

Despite concerns, Berardi remains firm in her legal practice. Meanwhile, the legal community is unsettled by a recent deal between the Trump administration and Paul, Weiss, raising fears of growing political pressure on law firms.
