Moravia school district settles decades-old abuse case

The Moravia Central School District has reached a confidential settlement with a former student who accused the district of failing to prevent his sexual abuse by an elementary school principal in the 1980s.

According to The Citizen, Keith Blanchard alleged he was abused by Principal John Hall between 1981 and 1983, beginning at age 6. The lawsuit, filed under New York’s Child Victims Act, went to trial earlier this month but was resolved minutes before closing arguments.

Hall, later convicted in a separate child pornography case, was not named in the suit. Blanchard’s attorney said the settlement offers partial closure after decades of silence.
