Wayne County Undersheriff Tammy Ryndock has been named the American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, recognizing her 25 years of dedication to public service.
Ryndock, who became the county’s first female undersheriff in 2022, received the award Tuesday evening at the Newark American Legion August Mauer Post #286. She was nominated by a local veteran, highlighting her commitment to law enforcement and community service. The award was presented by American Legion Commander Stephen Johnson.
Throughout her career, Ryndock has taken on numerous roles within the sheriff’s office while continuing to serve the community she calls home. Her work extends beyond law enforcement, as she plays a key role in local advocacy efforts. She is a board member for both the Wayne County Child Advocacy Center and the Survivor Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes, working to protect children and support survivors of abuse. Additionally, she serves on the Citizens Implementation Committee for the Town of Lyons, which seeks ways to improve the local community.
Receiving this honor from an organization of veterans, who deeply understand service and sacrifice, marks a significant moment in Ryndock’s career.
