Wayne County’s search for a new administrator is moving slower than expected, with only one qualified applicant among seven submissions. With current Administrator Rick House set to retire March 28, officials are now considering hiring a recruitment consultant, according to The Finger Lakes Times.
They report tensions flared at a recent meeting as some supervisors pressed for an interim plan. Board Chair Kim Leonard assured them a “qualified person” is available but has yet to be named. Officials debated whether to fast-track hiring a consultant under a $20,000 budget cap to avoid delays.
House expressed frustration over the slow process, saying more should have been done when he announced his retirement in January. Despite concerns, Leonard maintained there’s no need to panic, emphasizing efforts to secure an interim leader soon.
