Finger Lakes Community College has added two new officers to its Campus Police force. Christopher Stobie and Shaina Sexton were officially sworn in on March 6 by FLCC President Robert Nye, with family members and college staff in attendance.
Sexton and Stobie will now join 30 other recruits from across the Finger Lakes region in an intensive police officer training program at the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy. The program, which begins today at FLCC’s main campus, will prepare them for their new roles in campus safety and law enforcement.
“We are honored that (they) have chosen us, to protect us and help our students be able to feel safe so they can learn and grow while they’re here,” Nye said.
Stobie, a Clifton Springs resident and SUNY Morrisville graduate, has previously worked as a Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES teacher and has taught EMT courses at FLCC’s Geneva Campus Center. Sexton, a Rochester resident and Erie Community College graduate, has experience working for the Developmental Disabilities Services Office and as a lineman for a cellular service provider. She will also make history as FLCC’s first female police officer.
A badge pinning ceremony is scheduled for July, and both officers are expected to graduate from the training program this fall.
