Attorney General Pamela Bondi appoints Michael DiGiacomo as U.S. Attorney

Michael DiGiacomo was sworn in Monday as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York, following his appointment by Attorney General Pamela Bondi. U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo administered the oath in Buffalo. DiGiacomo will serve in the role for up to 120 days or until a presidential nominee is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

DiGiacomo has spent more than two decades as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, joining the office in 2002. He started in the Narcotics and Violent Crimes Division, where he prosecuted multi-defendant drug trafficking cases. Later, he moved to the White Collar and General Crimes Division, where he served as chief for 10 years, supervising a team of 12 attorneys and a deputy chief. His extensive experience includes cases involving child exploitation, defense procurement fraud, intellectual property violations, health care fraud, and immigration offenses.

In addition to his prosecutorial work, DiGiacomo has played a key role in cybercrime enforcement as the computer hacking and intellectual property coordinator for the district. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he practiced law privately in Buffalo.

“Having served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in this office for the past 23 years, I am both honored and humbled to be chosen to serve as United States Attorney,” DiGiacomo said.

His appointment ensures continued leadership in the Western District of New York while the selection of a permanent U.S. Attorney is pending.
