A Varick man was taken into custody after allegedly preventing a woman from calling 911 during a domestic dispute, authorities said.
Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reported that deputies arrested Derek Lyon, 39, on February 23 at approximately 8:30 a.m. He was charged with second-degree harassment, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and aggravated family offense.
The arrest followed a report of a physical domestic incident in progress. According to investigators, Lyon and a female victim were involved in an argument when she attempted to call 911 for help. Deputies say Lyon took the phone from the victim and broke it, preventing her from making the call.
Lyon was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility and remained in custody until his arraignment in CAP Court.
