The New York State Department of Transportation is planning to replace a 93-year-old bridge on routes 5&20 over the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. A public meeting will be held Wednesday in Seneca Falls for residents to review the preliminary plans and ask questions.
The aging bridge, rated in poor condition, will be replaced with a longer, narrower structure designed to meet modern safety standards. It will accommodate all legal loads, including buses and emergency vehicles. A temporary two-lane bridge will be installed during construction.
The project, estimated to cost between $15 million and $25 million, is still in the design phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
