The Geneva City Democratic Committee has endorsed Jim Cecere for mayor in the upcoming Geneva City Council elections, citing his vision for an inclusive, economically vibrant future for the city.

In announcing their endorsement, committee members expressed confidence that Cecere embodies the Democratic values of fairness, inclusion, and progress. They praised his commitment to collaboration and civil discourse as essential qualities for leading Geneva forward.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Geneva City Democratic Committee,” Cecere said. “Geneva is at a crossroads with incredible potential, and I am committed to working with all residents to make our city stronger, more inclusive, and economically vibrant.”

A Geneva native, Cecere built a successful business career in New York City before returning to launch businesses in his hometown. Alongside his partner, Kevin San Jose, he operates Finger Lakes Goods and Vinifera on Linden Street, with plans to open Vinifera Ithaca. The committee emphasized his ability to unite Genevans, both as a business leader and as a mayoral candidate.

Committee chair Jess Farrell highlighted Cecere’s understanding of Geneva’s strengths and challenges. “In Jim’s interview with our committee, it was obvious that he has an appreciation for what is wonderful about Geneva and also creative ideas about how to address the challenges the city is facing,” Farrell said.

The endorsement follows a rigorous selection process, which included reviewing a platform developed in part through a public community survey. Farrell noted that Cecere’s plans align with the committee’s policy priorities and that he brings an inclusive and forward-looking approach to leadership.

The Geneva City Democratic Committee believes Cecere’s business experience and leadership could help overcome the divisions that have hindered City Council progress in recent years. They see his candidacy as an opportunity to break through stagnation and build a more unified and thriving Geneva.
