TikTok returns to U.S. app stores after ban delay

  • Staff Report

TikTok is once again available on Apple and Google app stores in the U.S. after President Donald Trump postponed enforcement of a ban requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest the app. The platform, which has over 170 million American users, was removed on Jan. 18 but restored following Trump’s executive order extending the ban deadline to April 5.

The U.S. government has long cited national security concerns over TikTok’s Chinese ownership, while the company denies sharing user data. The ban’s brief enforcement led some users to migrate to the Chinese app RedNote.

Trump, who previously considered banning TikTok, has floated the idea of joint American ownership, with figures like Kevin O’Leary and MrBeast among potential buyers. The app’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain.
