Geneva residents charged with animal cruelty after police raid

Two Geneva residents are facing multiple animal cruelty charges after authorities discovered 11 dogs living in unsanitary conditions inside their apartment.

The Ontario County Humane Society, working with Geneva Police and Child Protective Services, launched an investigation after receiving a report about the welfare of animals at 18 Middle Street. Following the probe, a search warrant was issued and executed on February 10.

Inside the apartment, investigators found a 4-year-old female Pitbull, three juvenile Pitbulls, and seven puppies in a space contaminated with urine and feces. The dogs were seized and taken to the Ontario County Humane Society shelter for medical treatment. Some of the animals were found to have internal and external parasites, and a number of them have since developed parvovirus.

The apartment’s residents, 42-year-old Dawn Cameron and 39-year-old Dustin H. Bush, have each been charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty. They are set to appear in Geneva City Court at a later date.

Due to the health risks, the Ontario County Humane Society has temporarily closed its shelter for deep cleaning while the affected animals remain quarantined.
