Republicans, Democrats split on economic outlook for 2025

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Americans are divided on the economy’s future, with 73% of Republicans expecting improvement under President Trump, while 64% of Democrats predict a downturn. Overall, 40% of Americans are optimistic, 37% expect worsening conditions, and 23% foresee little change.

Economic confidence remains low, with only 24% rating conditions as good or excellent. Republicans’ outlook has improved since fall, while Democrats’ views have declined. Predictions vary by sector—many expect gas prices to improve, but most anticipate rising costs for housing, food, and health care.

Republicans largely believe affordability will improve, while majorities of Democrats foresee worsening conditions. The political divide underscores uncertainty about economic trends in the coming year.
