Ithaca man arrested after months-long arson investigation

Police have arrested a suspect following an extensive inquiry into a Newark Valley house fire.

Andrew B. Gildea, 43, of Ithaca, was charged with third-degree arson, criminal mischief, and aggravated unlicensed vehicle operation.

Authorities allege the fire occurred on June 19, 2024. After a six-month investigation, Gildea was taken into custody on Feb. 5.

He was processed in Tioga County Court and later transferred to Tompkins County Jail, where he is being held on bail for a separate case.
