FDA recall of baked goods over Listeria risk: Clarification from FGF brands

Recent media reports regarding a recall of baked goods from FGF Brands may have caused confusion among consumers. While the recall was originally issued due to potential listeria contamination concerns, FGF has clarified that the voluntary recall was completed over a month ago, in early January, and does not impact any products currently on the market.

According to FGF Vice President of Supply Chain and Recall Coordinator Simona Ionita, all donuts are completely safe to eat. The recall was a precautionary measure based on non-product-related findings at one of its U.S. facilities, and no donuts or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria. Additionally, the recall applied only to donut products in the U.S.

The FDA had initially recalled over two million baked goods, including donuts and éclairs, with Dunkin’ products among those affected. However, the recall only applied to items sold before December 13, 2024. Consumers were urged to check their freezers at the time, though Dunkin’ confirmed that no surfaces tested positive for listeria.

FGF emphasizes that food safety remains its top priority and that it acted with an abundance of caution in issuing the recall.
