The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office convened a meeting of its Community Collaborative Advisement Committee this week at the Owasco Fire Department to address pressing issues affecting both the department and local residents.
Among the topics discussed were homelessness, first responder wellness, immigration, and mental health—critical areas the Sheriff’s Office is focusing on to better serve the community. Sheriff Brian Schenck provided attendees with an update on the department’s 2024 statistics and operations.
The advisory committee, which aims to foster open communication between law enforcement and citizens, works to offer feedback on community needs and concerns. In attendance were committee members Kathy Aguilar, William Berry, Josh Czyz, Officer Brian Kelly, Brian Muldrow, James Basile, Shari Weiss, and Travis Poole, along with Sheriff Schenck. Bryan Bush and Corporal Ben Laderer were unable to attend.
